Temporary Structures for Summer Festivals

The UK festival season is one of the most demanding environments a temporary structure supplier can work in. Sites change year to year. Ground conditions vary enormously from one location to the next. The weather rarely cooperates. Footprints need to work around existing infrastructure, licensing requirements and the kind of access constraints that only become apparent once you are actually on site walking the ground.

Add to that the fixed nature of the festival calendar, the number of moving parts involved in a large outdoor event, and the fact that your structures need to be up and ready before any of the other suppliers arrive, and it becomes clear that choosing the right structure partner is one of the most consequential decisions in the planning process.

We’ve been supplying temporary structures to festivals and outdoor events since 1991. From intimate boutique events to major multi-day festivals attracting tens of thousands of people, we understand what the season requires and what tends to go wrong when a supplier is not properly set up to handle it.

What festival organisers actually need from a structure supplier

The conversations we have with festival organisers tend to cover the same ground. Lead times are tight because the calendar is fixed and everything else in the planning process has to work around it. The brief changes more than once before build day because festivals are complex and evolving projects. The site has a complication that was not obvious in the original drawings. Something needs to be adapted at short notice because that is the nature of outdoor events.

All of this is manageable when you are working with a manufacturer who designs and builds their own structures and deploys their own installation teams. It becomes considerably harder when your supplier is a distributor waiting on an overseas factory for components or a modified specification. Our marquee manufacturing operation in Christchurch, Dorset means we can respond to changes quickly, work to non-standard specifications, and get replacement components to site fast if something needs resolving during the event. Our in-house design team works with you from the initial site visit through to the finished build, which means problems get identified and solved early rather than on the day.

The range of structures we supply for festivals

Festival sites rarely call for a single structure. Most events involve a combination of covered spaces serving different functions, and the brief for each one tends to be quite different from the last. A VIP hospitality area has entirely different requirements from a covered production zone or a box office entrance structure, and both of those are different again from a brand activation space for a headline sponsor.

We have supplied VIP and VVIP arenas for the Bournemouth 7s Festival, where the client told us the structures exceeded all of their expectations and praised our professional approach throughout. We built a bespoke touring structure for Jägermeister that had to perform reliably across multiple festival sites with varying ground conditions, different access routes and a tight turnaround between events. We’ve supplied hospitality structures and exhibition spaces to events across the UK calendar, and worked on projects that have ranged from a single covered area to a complete multi-structure site plan.

These are not jobs that suit a standard product. They suit a supplier with genuine bespoke capability, experienced in-house designers who can work through the detail before anything goes into production, and installation teams who know what they are doing when the ground is soft and the clock is running.

Across a typical festival season we supply structures for:

  • VIP and VVIP hospitality areas
  • Covered bar and catering spaces
  • Viewing platforms
  • Artist, performer and crew facilities
  • Box offices and entrance structures
  • Covered stage wings and production areas
  • Sponsor and brand activation spaces
  • Exhibition structures
  • Bespoke celebration and private event spaces
  • Welfare and first aid facilities
  • Operational and logistics buildings

Each of these has different requirements in terms of size, insulation, internal fit-out, access and finish. We work through those requirements with you at the design stage rather than presenting a product range and asking you to fit your event around it.

Bespoke finishes and branding

For brand-led activations and sponsored areas, the structure itself is part of the experience. Generic white PVC is not always the right answer, and for clients with strong brand guidelines it is rarely adequate. We can produce branded PVC in custom colours, incorporate glazed facades, specify door and window configurations to suit the internal layout, design bespoke entrance structures, and work to an internal fit-out brief that reflects the look and feel the client needs to achieve.

Our work with Jägermeister is a good example of what this looks like in practice. The structure needed to look and feel like an extension of the brand, perform consistently across different festival sites throughout the summer, and go up and come down efficiently at each location without any loss of quality or finish. That kind of brief requires a design team and a manufacturing capability working closely together, not a product picked from a catalogue and dressed up with a vinyl wrap.

For event organisers working with headline sponsors, the ability to deliver a branded structure that genuinely reflects the sponsor’s identity is increasingly important. It is part of what makes a sponsorship feel premium rather than bolted on.

Weather, ground conditions and structural engineering

UK summer weather is unpredictable, and festival structures need to be engineered to handle whatever the season brings. We carry out structural calculations based on your exact site and location, accounting for wind loading, ground conditions and any specific environmental factors that apply to the site. We hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001, MUTA full supplier status, CHAS, SafeContractor and BSI certification, all independently audited. Full details are on our about us page.

Ground conditions at festival sites vary considerably. Firm hardstanding behaves very differently from soft agricultural land that has already taken heavy footfall from vehicle movements and previous years of events. We assess ground conditions as part of our site visit process and factor them into the build plan from the start, which avoids the kind of surprises that cause delays on build day.

We also carry out a full de-rig as part of every project, leaving the site in the condition we found it. For venues and landowners who host multiple events across the season, that matters.

Working with other suppliers on site

Large festival sites involve multiple suppliers working in parallel, and the ability to coordinate effectively with production companies, power suppliers, caterers and other contractors is part of what makes an event come together cleanly. We are experienced in working within complex multi-supplier environments and understand the importance of communicating clearly, hitting build milestones on time, and flagging issues early rather than late.

Our installation teams are our own employees, managed directly by us throughout the project. That means there is always a clear point of contact and a clear line of accountability, which matters when decisions need to be made quickly on a busy festival site.

Planning ahead for the festival season

The festival season has a fixed calendar and good suppliers book up quickly. Build windows at major events are often surprisingly short, which means the planning and design process needs to be well advanced before the season begins. If you are considering structures for a summer event, the earlier you start the conversation the better. We can hold provisional dates, work through the design process in the quieter months, and ensure everything is confirmed and ready well before the build window opens.

We also offer flexible payment options including phased payments and leasing arrangements, which suits the cash flow profile of many event organisations and festival producers.
