Working in partnership with some fantastic suppliers, we were asked to visit a site in Holt, Norfolk as their only supermarket had burnt down two weeks previously.
The brief was to design and build a structure that fit a space in the original Budgens car park, that allowed access around the structure to other shops, access for the general public to walk by, access for store delivery vehicles and also to ensure it did not disturb other local businesses. It also needed to be sufficient to last approximately 18 months whilst the main store was being rebuilt.
Mar-Key initially assisted with the planning for the store and introduced our preferred contact who then took the job on to help the store receive planning permission with the local authority. We installed a 20m x 30m A-frame structure on a 4m leg, with 40mm insulated walling and a thermo roof to assist with insulation.
The existing cassette floor that had been installed was overlayed with a T&G layer to create a better surface to lay the desired floor covering and for all the shelving units and fridges to sit on.
There were two automated sliding doors installed for the entrance and exit creating a premium feel for customers, and steel double fire exit doors we re located back of house.
We had bespoke ramps built to fit the structure for all doorways and ensured that they were DDA compliant but also to ensure they were suitable for a long period of time. The entrance ramp had a canopy over the top to assist with any potential queuing and weather conditions.
The entire structure was clad around the base to give the structure a more finished feel and to cover the feet and packing system underneath.
The team were onsite for 6 days before any other contractors had access, by this point the majority of the structure was then sealed in. By day 11 Mar-Key Group had signed the structure off and handed over for the finishing touches to be completed ready for store opening.
