CASE STUDY: Temporary Classroom

The temporary classroom that we fitted at this college is a pre-used insulated structure, showing exactly how our structures can be reused, relocated and recycled. “The recycling of existing materials really ticked the box for us environmentally”.

At Mar-Key Group, all of our structures are Made in Britain which was an important factor in our clients decision making process as “not only is this good for the British economy but it also meant that we didn’t have to rely on long lead times for anything being manufactured abroad”.

Circular construction

When talking about circular construction, our client at Cambridge Regional College is the perfect example of this! Circular construction aims to minimise waste by reusing and recycling materials for a greener UK. What once was used as a university lecture classroom, is now a classroom fit for the construction department at Cambridge Regional College, teaching students how to become brick layers.

This 20m x 15m structure was simply dismantled at its old location and rebuilt at the new one, putting emphasis on the flexibility of temporary buildings.

There are many benefits to using a pre-used building. Our client expressed that for them it was the quicker timelines and being able to have the opportunity to see the building as it was and get a feel for what it would look like that helped them chose circular construction for their building.

What this build means to the client

It is expected that there will be another 100,000 houses built in the next 10 years in this part of the world and so the workforce is needed to be able to construct those houses. Our client at Cambridge College expressed that “because of this facility, we’ve been able to ensure that we could take up to 100 more learners”, therefore helping them expand and teach more people in the construction industry.

Having this building not only allows our client to train more individuals but in doing so, it allows our them equip the workforce, helping out the local economy too.

Speed and execution

This build was completed in just 7 days! “If somebody said to me in June, don’t worry you’ll have a really good building by September, I would’ve probably hugged them.”

This super fast timeline is one of the many benefits to choosing a temporary building and we can assure you that while it is fast, the execution is not slept on. This classroom comes equipped with heating, flooring and any other accessories the client feels is necessary for everyone to be comfortable inside of the building. Due to this being a classroom, the comfortability of the students is their top priority and this is by no doubt reflected in the quality and execution of the building.
